Biosketch and Research Interests
Atin joined the Conn lab in June 2011 after completing his undergraduate study from Lee University, Cleveland, TN. While in college, he was involved in the study of genetic differentiation of Eastern Hellbenders, Crytobranchus alleganiensis alleganiensis, using mitochondrial markers (COI, ctyb, and d loop) and microsatellites, and comparison of their sequences to estimate genetic diversity within Tennessee Valley Watershed. He also has research experience on cell culture, protein extraction and purification, and GTP hydrolysis and peptidyl transfer assays through undergraduate internship and several individual research projects.
Atin is mostly interested in the fields of pharmacology and neuroscience, and hence would like to pursue his career in research and development of the respective fields. Presently, he is working at the Vanderbilt Center for Neuroscience Drug Discovery performing in vitro pharmacology. He performs routine concentration response curve screening on compound plates for potential human muscarinic acetylcholine receptor agonists, antagonists, and positive allosteric modulators.
